2019 Toyato Avalon Overview

There are a few automobile models that are so iconic that they’ve managed to not just navigate the changing consumer tastes but even thrive over the years. The Toyota Avalon is one of those models. First introduced in 1994, the Avalon is in its fifth incarnation and it remains one of the most stylish and popular traditional sedans on the market.

The 2019 model has been tweaked on the exterior from its 2018 edition. Designed at Toyota’s Calty studio in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the 2019 model has a 2.0-inch-longer wheelbase and is about an inch lower. As a result, the silhouette of the 2019 version is striking, a classic sedan.

Horsepower

That sedan-centric approach is also evident in the Avalon’s powertrain and suspension. Since 2005, the Avalon has come standard as a front-wheel drive with a 3.5-liter 2GR-FE engine. The 2019 now boasts 301 horsepower, an increase of 33 horsepower from the 2018 model. 2019 also brings a new eight-speed automatic transmission, which adds some pep and performance over 2018’s six-speed automatic offering.

People who spring for the XLE, XSE, or Limited trim packages also have the option of getting a 2.5-liter inline-four and dual electric motors that puts out 215 horsepower. That an increase of 15 horsepower over the previous version.

Interior Design

The interior of the 2019 Avalon is roomy and welcoming. Lots of sleek lines and curves with aluminum trim being used in the XSE and Touring models and wood trim used throughout in the Limited trim models. The instrumentation centerpiece is the center console stack’s 9.0-inch touchscreen. It runs all of the technology and the big addition in 2019 is that it now supports Apple CarPlay, although it still doesn’t support Google Auto.

Standard and Optional Features

One big plus for Avalon buyers is that any trim model of the car includes an impressive list of standard features. They include a 7.0-inch display cluster in the instrumentation panel, fast-charging USB ports in the front and rear areas, connectivity for Amazon Alexa smartwatches, keyless hands-free keyless entry with push-button start. A comprehensive safety technology package is also standard and that includes blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure mitigation and automatic emergency braking.

Options available in 2019 on the Avalon include a head-up display with a 10.0-inch viewing LCS screen, a JBL sound system boasting 14-speaker and 1,200-watts of power, a surround-view camera system with a front-wheel view mode and your choice of real wood or aluminum trim.

Trim

Overall, the 2019 Toyota Avalon comes in four trim packages, along with two hybrid engine trim levels. The basic Avalon XLE trim level comes with the standard features listed above, along with Dual-zone automatic climate control, 8-way adjustable leather-trimmed and heated front seats and a 3-way drive-mode that switches between Normal, Sport and Eco).

The Avalon Limited trim level upgrades the standard 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels to 18 inches and adds a heated steering wheel and rear seats, 10-inch color heads-up display, a power tilt moonroof with power slide, along with ambient interior lighting and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.

The Avalon XSE trim level adds remote start and lock/unlock, quad chrome tips on the dual exhaust, custom 19-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, LED headlights and taillights as well as an enhanced safety that includes Dynamic Radar Cruise Control and pedestrian detection.

The top-of-the-line Avalon Touring trim level adds on 10-inch color head-up display, Adaptive Variable Suspension system and a 14-speaker JBL audio system with an accompanying auto App suite.
